Yo, Ed...We're still having fun and our duo group is nearly 68 now. At this rate, we might make 80 before Becca moves down here in June... :)

I thought you might find this information interesting, Ed... http://www.pixlmonster.com/cab/gambling/

Interesting data... however, I don't gamble. I don't play any of those games. I don't play against the house, I play against other people and pay the house a fee for their room and dealers (rake).

BTW, if you ever want a (free) game to mess around with with Tricia is gone and you're tired of WoW... try DAoC. It is a blast and Drew and I are on all the time and have all the crafts covered!

Ahh, well good to know you aren't experiencing the same issues as (other) gamblers... :)

I might be willing to give it a try, where do I go to get the client? Are there any add-ons or anything else you need or recommend? I assume we start from scratch, that should be interesting (but, at least it's free)...

Yeah, you start from scratch.... that is the fun of it. Of course I have like a few hundred charaters now. :?

I don't know anything about any add-ons... I don't use any. In my mind the game is still miles ahead of even the latest games in many respects. The UI is a little ancient but you get used to it.

You can get it here:

So, I downloaded the client last night and a portal program. I patched the client and launched it along with the portal program and clicked on Uthgard and tried putting a username & password in on the right side of the screen and I got some weird error that the name was either too long or two short, it was five characters long... I only tried once and went to play WoW instead...any idea what I did wrong?

My guess would be that your password was either too long or too short! 8O

And I'm really impressed with the tenacity displayed on your part! 8)

Well, my 3 accounts have logins that are 7, 8, and 9 characters long. P/W for all is 8 chars long.
That should help the world bust into my accounts!

Hehe, I'll try again tonight, smart guy... I think my password was 7 characters, but who knows. I was more concerned if I didn't download something that I needed or didn't run it correctly. I'll give it two tries tonight. 8)

Honestly I don't remember what all I had to do to download it, etc. I think it was download the client then download the server patch. The patch was not needed to get in but a message would pop up telling you to install it to be legal with their rules. I think once you download it you have to load it or something with the DAOCPortal app.

BTW, if you get in do a /who Germ or /who Jerm to find me. Drew is of course Pest* but there is another guy on the server with Pest stuff... so if you get someone who is like level 50 that is not Drew.

It appears that this has become our own private forum, Ed... :) Maybe Jan is still lurking.

Welp, I tried to log in again last night and got a DLL error, so I gave up and played WoW...

I'll try reinstalling this weekend and see if that fixes it. This is where I got the files, btw, maybe it's not the right place... http://portal.dolserver.net/?page=downloads

Yeah, I think that is the right place. I'm old and forget things... don't remember what I had to do. I'll ask Drew again. It seems, but not sure, that I might have gotten the client from the actual DAoC site. But again, can't remember. I'll let you know.

Any luck on confirming if I need to get files from somewhere else? Inquiring minds want to know...

Brian,

Here is what Drew sent me... hope it helps and hope to see you on some...

1. Go to http://www.darkageofcamelot.com/download/
2. Download the full client.
3. Install DAoC to the computer.
4. Update DAoC (this takes a long time, but needs to be done)
5. Once the full update is done, go to http://portal.dolserver.net/?page=downloads
6. On the left side, click "Download DAoC Portal Client."
7. Install the portal.
8. Open the DAoC Portal (you may have to use the "Updater" application the first time. I did, don't know why.)
9. The settings menu should pop up after updating the Portal. (If not, after update, go to "File" then "Settings.")
10. Select "Browse" then select where your "Dark Age of Camelot - Labyrinth of the Minotaur" FOLDER is located. Select the DAoC folder. Then click "Ok."
11. Make sure the "EU Version" is selected.
12. If you have any issues thus far, try visiting http://portal.dolserver.net/?page=support for some help. They have some nice (but dated) videos, so take it with a grain of salt.
13. To start a new account, select the "Uthgard" server from the list. Type your Username that you wish to use and then the password you wish to use into the respective places. Click play and you should be done. Once you start you are given directions on how to register your account (which I recommend.)
14. Hit up Pest___ or Germ___.
